Marcus Willis

 

 

 

Marcus was financially struggling to stay on the ITF futures tour until A1 stepped in with funds and free management at the end of 2012. Incredibly Marcus quickly climbed from an ATP ranking of 1020 to a personal best (PB) ranking 322 during a highly succesful 2 year sponsorship campaign under pharmacist Gary Lewis's personal management. After 5 years as a pro Marcus within 3 months won his first pro singles title a British futures in Glasgow the A1 No1 currently has a world ATP ranking of 722 but his recent Wimbledon success surely means we will soon see him reach a new personal best and more grand slam appearances.

 

Gary realised Marcus's huge potential when he witnessed him win impressivley at junior Queens 2007. At 17 Marcus achieved a very impressive ITF junior world ranking No12 and No1 in GB highlighting his mens top 100 potential. 

 

After Marcus lost his LTA funding and dropped dramaticaly down the rankings, Gary quickly stepped in as manager and with A1 Pharmaceuticals Plc providing sponsorship Marcus quickly rose in the world rankings and won his first pro singles tournament within 3 months. A1 has a policy of paying generous Aegon fees to GB pro players which is more generous than futures prize money and competitive with French club league with the goal of helping them finance their pro tour while they climb the rankings. 

 

Marcus has played a key role in securing 2 national Aegon team titles in 2014 & 2015 and remains our No 1 singles and doubles player in our 2016 attempt to become our first club in Aegon team history to successfully win consecutive mens team titles.
